The first word of an HTTP request, saying what the client wants to do: fetch, send, replace or remove.

GET should only fetch, POST sends data for processing, PUT replaces, DELETE removes. Because browsers, crawlers and link previews send GET freely, a server that changes data on GET is open to accidents and abuse.
