Password Hash
Also: password hashing, hashed password
A one-way fingerprint of a password that a site stores instead of the password itself.
In more detail
At login the site hashes what you typed and compares it with the stored fingerprint. Because a hash cannot be reversed, stolen fingerprints cannot be read back directly, but they can be guessed offline. Good storage uses a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2id, scrypt or bcrypt rather than a fast general-purpose hash.
