Salt
Also: password salt
A random value stored beside each password hash and mixed into it so identical passwords give different hashes.
In more detail
A salt is unique per account and is not secret. It prevents an attacker from reusing one precomputed table of guesses against every account and hides which users share a password. Libraries such as bcrypt and Argon2 create and store it automatically.
