Pointer
A variable whose value is a memory address, saying where some data lives instead of holding the data.
In more detail
Pointers let programs refer to heap blocks, arrays and functions. The hardware never checks that a pointer still makes sense, so a stale, null or out-of-range pointer is the root of many memory-safety bugs.
