Stack
Also: call stack
The region of a process's memory that holds each running function's local variables and return note, added and removed automatically.
In more detail
Every function call pushes a frame onto the stack and every return pops it. It is fast and needs no bookkeeping, but fixed-size local buffers sit right beside control data such as the return address, which is why overflows on the stack are so serious.
