TCP
Also: Transmission Control Protocol
The rules that make a stream of packets arrive complete and in order, by numbering pieces and resending lost ones.
In more detail
A TCP connection starts with a short handshake in which both sides agree to talk. Web traffic, SSH and most databases use it. UDP is a looser alternative that does not resend lost pieces, used where speed matters more than completeness.
