TTL
Also: time to live
How long, in seconds, a DNS answer may be cached before it must be looked up again.
In more detail
The domain owner sets the TTL on each record. A short TTL lets changes take effect quickly; a long one saves lookups. Old answers do not spread or disappear on their own, they expire at different moments in different resolvers.
